Scratched floor with stains - Combined Treatment Guide

Scratched floor with stains

High-traffic stone floor (hallway, kitchen, commercial) with both surface scratches/dulling and various stains from spills

Problems: General Cleaning + ScratchesSurfaces: Natural Stone, Artificial Stone

Why order matters

When two problems appear together, the treatment order is critical. Using the wrong product first can spread stains, neutralise chemicals, or cause new damage. Follow these steps in order.

Treatment Steps

  1. Step 1: General Cleaning

Product: Lithofin MN Power-Clean (or specific stain remover for identified stain types)

Why this order: Chemical stain removal must happen first. Polishing a stained surface will seal the stain under the new polish, making it much harder to remove later.

Method: Identify and treat specific stains first (oil → OIL-EX, rust → Rust-EX, etc.). Then deep clean entire floor with Power-Clean diluted 1:5. Rinse thoroughly.

Wait: Allow to dry 24 hours

  2. Step 2: Scratches

    Product: Lithofin MN Polish Cream

Why this order: On a clean surface, scratches can now be properly assessed and polished. Polish Cream works best on clean, dry stone.

Method: Apply Polish Cream with felt pad or buffing machine. Work in circular motions. For light scratches: hand application. For widespread dulling: use single-disc machine with felt pad at 150-200 RPM.

Wait: Seal with Stain-Stop after polishing for long-term protection

Warnings

  • On marble floors: never use acidic stain removers - they will create more etch marks
  • For deep scratches: professional diamond grinding may be needed before polishing
  • Consider entrance matting to prevent future scratching (catches 80% of grit)
