Lithofin KF Silicone Remover
Art. 113-21-B
Old, blackened silicone joints around your shower tray cling stubbornly to the glazed edges of the tiles. You scrape, the blade skips, and the silicone smears instead of lifting. KF Silicone Remover breaks that bond so you peel the joint off cleanly without scratching the porcelain.
What KF Silicone Remover Does
KF Silicone Remover is an acidic solvent gel cleaner for ceramic and porcelain surfaces. A blend of aliphatic hydrocarbons and mild organic acids (pH ≈ 2) penetrates cured silicone, swells the polymer matrix by 150 %, and detaches it from the substrate. The thixotropic gel clings vertically for up to 90 minutes, giving the active ingredients time to dissolve adhesion promoters and fillers.
When to Use
- Bathroom wall joints on ceramic tiles - use neat, 1 mm gel layer.
- Shower tray edges on porcelain stoneware - use neat, 1 mm layer.
- Mirror edges on glass-mosaic backsplashes - use neat, 0.5 mm layer.
- Countertop upstands on granite - use neat, 1 mm layer.
- Removal of smeared silicone prior to deep cleaning - use neat.
How to Apply
- Mask acid-sensitive adjacent materials such as anodised aluminium.
- Spread a continuous 1 mm gel coat with a plastic spatula; do not dilute.
- Allow to dwell 20-90 min until the joint swells and turns matt.
- Lift silicone with a plastic scraper, then wipe residues with a dry cloth.
- Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner.
Average consumption 10-20 m² /L depending on joint thickness. No drying time: new silicone can be applied immediately after the surface is bone-dry.
Surface Compatibility
The gel sits safely on porcelain, ceramic, glass-mosaic, and low-porosity stones such as basalt because these materials are acid-resistant (Mohs 5-7) and non-absorbent, so the solvents do not stain. Good results are also achieved on granite, slate, concrete, quartz-composite, and clinker. Do not use on lacquered metals, acrylic tubs, or any surface not resistant to solvents and acids.
Choosing the Right Product
For ongoing tile maintenance after silicone removal, use KF Care 1:100 in warm water. For long-term stain defence on absorbent stone, apply KF Stain-Stop at 10 m² /L once the new joint has cured.
Pro Tips
- Score the old joint on both sides with a utility knife first; the gel penetrates faster, cutting dwell time by up to 30 minutes.
- Cover freshly applied gel with plastic film to slow evaporation on vertical surfaces; this increases penetration depth by 20 %.
- Warm the area to 25 °C with a hair dryer before application; higher temperature lowers silicone hardness (Shore A) and speeds swelling.

Frequently asked questions
Can KF Silicone Remover etch glazed ceramic?
No. Ceramic glaze is acid-resistant (Mohs 5) and withstands the pH ≈ 2 formulation without dulling.
How long should KF Silicone Remover dwell on porcelain?
Most cured joints lift after 45–60 minutes; maximum dwell is 90 minutes for very old silicone.
Is KF Silicone Remover safe on granite worktops?
Yes. Granite is solvent- and acid-resistant (Mohs 7). Wipe the gel off promptly to avoid residue.
What is the coverage rate of KF Silicone Remover?
Expect 10–20 m² per litre, varying with joint thickness and surface texture.
