Sandstone Outdoor terrace / patio - Complete Care Guide
From installation to daily maintenance: everything you need to know
Initial Care (After Installation)
When: 2-4 weeks after installation, in dry weather
- Allow new installation to weather for 2-4 weeks
- Clean with Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner to remove construction dirt
- Allow to dry completely (48-72 hours in dry weather)
- Apply Lithofin MN Stain-Stop - sandstone is very porous, apply generously
- Two coats recommended on very porous sandstone
- Allow 24 hours, avoid rain during curing
Products needed: Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner, Lithofin MN Stain-Stop
Daily Maintenance
Frequency: Weekly sweeping, monthly to quarterly cleaning
- Regular sweeping to remove leaves and debris
- Periodic hosing down
- Seasonal cleaning with MN Outdoor Cleaner or MN Wash & Clean
Products: Lithofin MN Wash & Clean, Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner
Do NOT:
- Do not use high-pressure washer at close range (erodes soft sandstone)
- Avoid acidic cleaners
- Do not let organic debris accumulate (feeds algae growth)
Periodic Deep Cleaning
Frequency: Annually (spring or autumn)
- Sweep and remove organic debris
- Apply Lithofin ALGEX for biological growth, leave 24-48h
- Rinse with garden hose or gentle pressure washer (30cm+ distance)
- Apply Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner for remaining soiling
- Scrub, rinse, allow to dry

Protection & Sealing
Re-seal every: Every 2-3 years
- Deep clean first
- Allow to dry completely (2-3 dry days)
- Apply Lithofin MN Stain-Stop generously - sandstone is very porous
- Two coats for best results
- Avoid rain for 24 hours after application

Troubleshooting
Green algae/moss
Lithofin ALGEX - spray undiluted, leave 24-48h, rinse. Preventive application annually.
Dark staining from leaf tannins
Lithofin MN Power-Clean undiluted on stain, leave 10 min, scrub, rinse.
Erosion from frost damage
Sandstone must be sealed to survive frost. If damage has occurred, repair is difficult. Re-seal undamaged areas. Severely damaged slabs may need replacement.
Oil stains from BBQ drips
Lithofin OIL-EX poultice - very effective on porous sandstone. Leave 12-24 hours.
