Slate Outdoor terrace and garden path - Complete Care Guide

From installation to daily maintenance: everything you need to know

Initial Care (After Installation)

When: Within 1 week of installation, after grout has cured.

  1. Clean the new slate surface with Lithofin MN Power-Clean diluted 1:10 to remove any installation residues.
  2. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to ensure all cleaning solution is removed.
  3. Allow the surface to dry completely (24-48 hours).
  4. Apply Lithofin MN Stain-Stop evenly with a soft cloth or sponge.
  5. Remove excess after 10-15 minutes.
  6. Allow 24 hours to cure before exposing to foot traffic.

Daily Maintenance

Frequency: Daily or after each use

  1. Sweep or hose down the surface to remove dirt and debris.
  2. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth using Lithofin MN Easy-Clean (spray) or MN Wash & Clean (diluted in water).
  3. Clean spills immediately to prevent staining.
  4. Dry the surface after cleaning to prevent water marks.

Do NOT:

  • Never use vinegar or lemon-based cleaners.
  • Never use abrasive sponges or steel wool.
  • Never use bleach or chlorine-based cleaners.
  • Do not allow standing water to accumulate on the surface.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals that can damage the slate.

Periodic Deep Cleaning

Frequency: Every 6-12 months

  1. Apply Lithofin MN Outdoor Cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Scrub the surface gently with a soft brush to remove deep-seated dirt and stains.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues.
  4. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying a protective treatment.

Protection & Sealing

Re-seal every: Every 1-2 years

  1. Reapply Lithofin MN Stain-Stop to maintain protection against stains.
  2. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application.
