Limescale with mold in bathroom - Combined Treatment Guide

Limescale with mold in bathroom

Shower walls and floors where calcium deposits have formed alongside black mold in grout joints

Problems: Mold Mildew + LimescaleSurfaces: Ceramics, Natural Stone, Artificial Stone

Why order matters

When two problems appear together, the treatment order is critical. Using the wrong product first can spread stains, neutralise chemicals, or cause new damage. Follow these steps in order.

Treatment Steps

  1. Step 1: Mold Mildew

    Product: Lithofin KF Mildew-Away

Why this order: Mold removal uses alkaline products. Limescale removal uses acidic products. Alkaline must come first - applying acid first would neutralize the mold treatment.

Method: Spray directly onto mold spots and grout joints. Leave 15-30 minutes. Scrub grout joints with a grout brush. Rinse thoroughly.

Wait: Rinse well and wait 1-2 hours before next step

  2. Step 2: Limescale

Product: Lithofin KF Cement Residue Remover (also effective on limescale)

Why this order: Now that mold is removed, acidic limescale remover can work directly on the calcium deposits without being neutralized.

Method: Apply to limescale deposits. Leave 5-10 minutes (do NOT use on marble or limestone). Scrub with nylon pad. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.

Wait: Allow to dry before re-sealing grout

Warnings

  • Never mix alkaline and acidic products - always rinse thoroughly between steps
  • On natural stone showers (marble, travertine): do NOT use acidic limescale remover - use MN Wash & Clean instead
  • Improve ventilation to prevent recurrence - squeegee after every shower
