Yellow wax layers on cotto? Strip to bare clay in one pass.

Your 40 m² terracotta kitchen floor looks dull and patchy after years of wax build-up. Old layers trap dirt and block new treatments. WAX-OFF strips every coat in one pass, giving you a clean base for fresh wax or impregnation.

What WAX-OFF Does

WAX-OFF is an alkaline solvent-boosted cleaner for waxed stone and tile. With a pH of 11.2 it splits the long-chain polymers in carnauba, acrylic, and paraffin waxes, then emulsifies the residue for easy rinsing. A 10-20 minute dwell breaks layers up to 2 mm thick; 1 L covers 3-10 m² depending on wax thickness.

When to Use

  • Cotto floor before re-waxing - apply undiluted, 100 ml/m² wax-residue
  • Terracotta hallway prior to stain-protection - undiluted, 120 ml/m²
  • Polished marble bathroom with polish rings - undiluted, 110 ml/m²
  • Rough granite patio with adhesive smears - undiluted, 180 ml/m²
  • Ceramic showroom tiles with slip polish build-up - undiluted, 90 ml/m²

How to Apply

  1. Brush or vacuum loose grit, then flood the surface with WAX-OFF undiluted (150 ml/m²).
  2. Spread evenly with a mop or white pad; allow 10-20 minutes without drying.
  3. Scrub manually or with a machine at 150 rpm using a green pad.
  4. Vacuum slurry, rinse twice with clean water, and towel dry.

Coverage: 3-10 m²/L. Dry to walk on after final rinse in 30 minutes; wait 24 hours before sealing or waxing.

Surface Compatibility

Terracotta, cotto, limestone, and other acid-sensitive stones suffer no etching because the alkaline formula contains no free acids. Dense materials like granite and porcelain release surface wax with one pass. Highly porous sandstone may need two applications. Do not use on plastic, painted, or rubber surfaces; solvents may soften them.

Choosing the Right Product

For deep stripping choose WAX-OFF. For traditional satin finishes apply Lithofin TC Classic Primer and TC Classic Wax after stripping. For invisible protection without shine, finish with Lithofin TC Impregnator.

Pro Tips

  • Warm the room to 20 °C; higher temperature speeds solvent action and cuts dwell time by 5 minutes.
  • Use a wet vacuum instead of mopping: it removes 95 % of slurry in one pass, preventing residue rings.
  • Rinse with 500 ml/m² of clean water; insufficient rinsing leaves alkaline traces that hinder new sealers.

Frequently asked questions

My cotto floor has yellowish wax build-up—can WAX-OFF fix it?

Yes. Apply undiluted at 120 ml/m², dwell 15 minutes, scrub, then rinse twice. One pass removes up to 5 old coats.

Should I wax or impregnate my cotto floor after using WAX-OFF?

Both options are open once the surface is stripped. Wax gives a satin sheen; an impregnation like TC Impregnator keeps the raw look while blocking stains.

Is WAX-OFF safe on marble?

Safe. The alkaline pH 11.2 does not etch acid-sensitive marble. Rinse well to remove any residue.

How long does WAX-OFF last once opened?

Store tightly sealed, frost-free. Shelf life is 3–5 years; solvents do not evaporate from a closed can.
