About Terracotta

Terracotta ('baked earth' in Italian) is one of the oldest building materials, made from natural clay fired at relatively low temperatures (900-1050 degrees C). Its warm, rustic character and earthy red-brown tones have made it iconic in Mediterranean, Tuscan, and Provencal architecture. Each tile has unique colour variations and surface character.

Terracotta is extremely porous - it absorbs water and stains readily, making proper treatment essential from the moment of installation. The traditional care system involves impregnation followed by waxing, which creates a protective layer while enhancing the warm colour. This wax layer builds up over time, developing a rich patina that is characteristic of well-maintained terracotta.

Unlike modern ceramics, terracotta requires a dedicated care regime. It cannot be cleaned with the same products used for porcelain or ceramic tiles. The Lithofin TC (Terracotta/Cotto) product line is specifically formulated for this traditional material. With proper care, terracotta floors develop extraordinary beauty over decades.
