Faded, absorbent patio concrete becomes vibrant and water-repellent in one coat

Your concrete terrace pavers look chalky, soak up every rain shower, and show dark algae shadows even after cleaning. You need a long-lasting barrier that revives colour and blocks moisture before the next winter freeze. Lithofin MN Concrete Coating delivers that protection in one ready-to-use layer.

What Concrete Coating Does

Concrete Coating is a neutral solvent-based sealer for exterior concrete. The resin penetrates 2-4 mm, polymerises within 24 h, and leaves a 5-10 µm micro-film that cuts water uptake by 90 % and oil absorption by 70 %. Colour depth increases about 20 %, giving weathered slabs a fresh, slightly wet look. UV-stable additives hold the effect for 2-5 years before recoat.

When to Use

  • Concrete terrace slabs after pressure-washing - apply neat, 120 ml/m².
  • Garden paths with biological staining - after outdoor-cleaning, 150 ml/m².
  • Exposed-aggregate patio around pools - 200 ml/m² for extra splash resistance.
  • Poured concrete steps that dust in summer - single coat, 100 ml/m².

How to Apply

  1. Clean the surface with MN Outdoor Cleaner, rinse, and let dry 24 h.
  2. Mask adjacent stone or wood. Shake Concrete Coating 30 s.
  3. Roll, brush, or spray a thin, even coat at 100-200 ml/m². Keep a wet edge.
  4. After 10 min remove puddles. For very porous zones apply a second wet-on-wet pass within 20 min.

Coverage: 5-15 m²/L depending on porosity. Foot traffic is possible after 4 h; full chemical cure after 24 h at 20 °C.

Surface Compatibility

The coating bonds perfectly to high-porosity, Mohs 5 concrete; the neutral formula avoids alkaline bloom and does not etch. It is unsuitable for natural stone, ceramic tiles, or indoor floors where colour change is unwanted.

Choosing the Right Product

For heavy algae or lichen removal use Lithofin ALGEX first, then seal with Concrete Coating. For colour intensification on granite or marble, switch to MN Colour Intensifier. Need periodic deep cleaning? Use MN Outdoor Cleaner twice a year to maintain the sealed surface.

Pro Tips

  • Always test 0.1 m²; adjust application rate until a slight sheen remains for 30 s-this ensures full pore saturation.
  • Apply when surface temperature is 10-25 °C; higher heat flashes solvent too fast, reducing penetration by up to 40 %.
  • Blow leaves or dust away before curing-debris embedded during the first hour becomes permanent until the next sanding.

Frequently asked questions

How long must new concrete cure before applying Concrete Coating?

Allow a minimum of 28 days curing so moisture drops below 4 %. Early sealing can trap water and cause whitening.

Will Concrete Coating darken my concrete surface?

Yes, colour intensity rises by roughly 10–20 %, producing a subtle wet look without gloss.

How often should Concrete Coating be reapplied outdoors?

Plan on recoating every 2–5 years. High UV and de-icing salt zones sit at the shorter end of that span.

What coverage do I get on exposed aggregate concrete?

Expect 5–10 m² per litre, or 150–250 ml/m², due to the open grain and raised stone texture.
