Cotto Interior floor (traditional treatment) - Complete Care Guide
From installation to daily maintenance: everything you need to know
Initial Care (After Installation)
When: After installation and grout curing (7-14 days for cotto)
- Clean new cotto with Lithofin KF Intensive Cleaner diluted 1:10
- Allow to dry completely (48-72 hours - cotto is very porous)
- Choose system: Traditional (wax) or Modern (impregnation)
- Traditional: Apply Lithofin TC Classic Primer, allow 4-12h to dry, then apply TC Classic Wax in thin coats, buff each coat
- Modern: Apply Lithofin TC Impregnator, remove excess after 10-15 minutes, allow 24h to cure
Products needed: Lithofin KF Intensive Cleaner, Lithofin TC Classic Primer, Lithofin TC Classic Wax, Lithofin TC Impregnator
Daily Maintenance
Frequency: Daily to weekly
- Sweep to remove grit (essential - grit scratches wax finish)
- Mop with Lithofin Cotto Easy-Clean diluted in water (wax system) or KF Conditioning Cleaner (impregnation system)
- Do not over-wet the floor
Products: Lithofin Cotto Easy-Clean, Lithofin KF Conditioning Cleaner
Do NOT:
- Do not use acidic cleaners
- Do not over-wet (cotto is very porous)
- Do not use generic floor cleaners (damage wax layer)
- Do not mix wax-system and impregnation-system products
Periodic Deep Cleaning
Frequency: Every 6-12 months
- Wax system: Lithofin KF Intensive Cleaner diluted 1:20 (gentle to preserve wax)
- Impregnation system: KF Intensive Cleaner diluted 1:10
- Scrub gently, rinse, allow to dry

Protection & Sealing
Re-seal every: Wax system: top-up annually, full strip every 3-5 years. Impregnation: every 3-5 years
- Wax top-up: clean surface, apply thin coat of TC Classic Wax, buff
- Full strip: Lithofin WAX-OFF to remove all old wax, then reapply TC Classic Primer + TC Classic Wax
- Impregnation: deep clean, dry, re-apply TC Impregnator

Troubleshooting
Yellowed/blotchy wax build-up
Strip completely with Lithofin WAX-OFF. May need 2-4 applications. Then reapply TC Classic Primer + TC Classic Wax from scratch.
Oil stain on unsealed cotto
Lithofin OIL-EX poultice. Leave 12-24 hours. Repeat if needed. Seal after treatment.
Efflorescence (white salt deposits)
Brush off dry deposits. Investigate moisture source. Clean with KF Intensive Cleaner. Re-seal after drying.
Scratches in wax finish
Buff lightly with soft cloth. If deep: strip area with WAX-OFF, re-apply primer and wax locally.
