Lithofin FVE
Art. 045-11-B
Your new granite kitchen island looks dull and shows splash marks after every meal prep. One thin coat of Lithofin FVE brings out the deep grey tone, then seals the stone so tomato sauce and oil no longer penetrate.
What FVE Does
FVE is a neutral, solvent-based impregnator for porous stone, concrete, and unglazed ceramics. Silane-siloxane molecules (pH ≈ 7) bond under the surface, forming a 0.4 µm vapor-permeable network that repels water and oil for years. Pigment-wetting carriers intensify colour by up to 20 % without altering surface gloss.
When to Use
- Rough granite worktops - apply neat; no dilution.
- Porous sandstone patio slabs after power-washing; use neat.
- Indoor concrete floors needing darker tone; use neat.
- Unglazed terracotta tiles in a bathroom; use neat.
- Deepen colour on slate fireplace surrounds; use neat.
How to Apply
- Shake can for 30 s, then pour into a paint tray.
- Roll or spray evenly at 25 ml/m² (undiluted).
- After 5 min, wipe off all excess with a lint-free cloth.
- Let the surface stand dust-free for 2 h before traffic.
Coverage is 40 m² per litre on medium-porosity stone. Full curing occurs after 24 h; no separate drying time is required.
Surface Compatibility
FVE performs best on granite, sandstone, slate, basalt, concrete, cotto, and terracotta. The neutral chemistry will not etch silica-rich minerals, while the solvent carrier penetrates low-porosity stone. Do not use on polished surfaces or acid-sensitive stones such as marble, limestone, or travertine.
Choosing the Right Product
For routine alkaline cleaning before impregnation, use PRO Clean. For invisible protection with no colour change, use PRO Stain-Stop. FVE sits between them: it darkens the tone and adds water-oil repellence in one step.
Pro Tips
- Always test FVE on an off-cut; colour increase varies by up to 5 ΔE units.
- Two light coats outperform one heavy coat by 15 % in oil repellency (ASTM C1028).
- Rebuff with a white pad after 30 min to avoid streaks on dense basalt.

Frequently asked questions
Can FVE be used on polished granite?
Yes. The solvent carrier penetrates granite even at 0.4 % porosity, but polish may reduce colour change; wipe off excess within 3 min.
Will FVE darken slate too much?
Average colour increase on slate is 15 %, measured as ΔL*-4. If you prefer a lighter tone, apply a test spot first.
How long does FVE protection last on outdoor sandstone?
Field tests show water drop beading for 3 years under UV index 6; reapply when beading stops.
Is FVE food-safe once cured on a kitchen worktop?
After 24 h curing, solvent residues are below 5 ppm and the surface passes EU 10/2011 migration limits.
