Unglazed porcelain stains dark? One coat blocks spills before they penetrate.

Your brand-new unglazed kitchen floor shows greasy footprints within days. Bathroom porcelain darkens around the vanity after every shampoo spill. One liberal coat of Lithofin KF Protective Impregnator stops these stains before they start.

What Protective Impregnator Does

Protective Impregnator is a neutral solvent-based impregnator for porous ceramic and porcelain tiles. Silane molecules (pH≈7) bond inside pores ≤0.1 µm, forming a water-contact angle of ≥110° and an oil-repellency rating of 5. Coverage reaches 10-30 m²/L, giving 3-5 years of invisible barrier against red wine, coffee and bathroom cosmetics.

When to Use

  • Unglazed porcelain kitchen floor after grout haze removal - Ready to use (RTU) 50 ml/m² stain-protection
  • High-traffic ceramic lobby tiles - RTU 60 ml/m² ceramic
  • Polished marble vanity splash zone - RTU 90 ml/m² porcelain alt finish
  • Clinker mudroom floor before winter - RTU 70 ml/m² clinker

How to Apply

  1. Ensure surface is clean, fully dry (24 h) and 10-25 °C.
  2. Pour RTU product into paint tray, saturate microfiber roller, then spread 50-100 ml/m² evenly.
  3. After 10 minutes, redistribute pools with a soft sponge to avoid gloss spots.
  4. After 30 minutes, buff residue with a white pad; allow 24 h before wet use.

Average coverage: 15 m²/L on porcelain, 12 m²/L on cotto. Full curing: 24 h; light traffic after 2 h.

Surface Compatibility

Excellent on porcelain (Mohs 7, low porosity) and ceramic (Mohs 5). Good on concrete, quartz-composite, terrazzo, cotto and clinker. The neutral formula will not etch acid-sensitive terrazzo, yet still sinks deep into high-porosity concrete. Do not use on glazed tiles or any surface that will receive wax later.

Choosing the Right Product

For routine washing of protected floors, use KF Conditioning Cleaner. For a pre-treatment that strips construction dirt before impregnation, use KF Intensive Cleaner.

Pro Tips

  • Test absorbency: a 5 cm water droplet should darken the tile within 30 s; if it beads, impregnation is unnecessary.
  • Warm the room to ≥18 °C to speed solvent evaporation and maximise 24 h cure time.
  • Two thin coats give better stain block on very porous cotto than one heavy coat because capillary spaces fill evenly.

Frequently asked questions

Will Protective Impregnator change the look of porcelain tiles?

No. The silane network is invisible; gloss and colour remain unchanged after the 24 h cure.

How long does Protective Impregnator last on ceramic floors?

Field tests show 3–5 years under normal foot traffic; reapply when water no longer beads.

Can I apply Protective Impregnator on glazed porcelain?

No. Glazing blocks penetration, so the product cannot bond. Use a surface coating instead.

What coverage should I expect on polished marble with Protective Impregnator?

Expect 10–20 m² per litre (50–100 ml/m²) because the tight surface absorbs less.
